Discerning servant (Psalm 119:125)

IMG_9829(Verse chosen from today’s Bible reading – Psalm 117 & Psalm 119:81-176 & 2 John & 3 John)

“I am your servant; give me discernment that I may understand your statutes.”  Psalm 119:125

What lessons are there for me in this Scripture?

The writer recognizes right off that he is God’s servant.  That is an important conclusion.  I am not His equal.

The writer’s attitude about discernment is important.  He wants it so that he will understand God’s Word.

That attitude must be mine too.  I can read and not have a clue about the meaning of the content.  Only with His help will I acquire learning that is spiritually lasting.  Only then will my time in the Word not be wasted time.

I have learned that familiarity with Scripture does not assure understanding.

What a wonderful feeling it is to hear/read Scripture and then get understanding.  So much of Scripture has direct application to me and my world, if only His discernment is given to me.

It is crucial for me to unlock the meaning of His Word.  Often Jesus said that the meaning of what He said was hidden from the wise.  I must recognize my nothingness as well as express my eagerness to learn.

“O Lord, help me to understand You.  Saturate me with the results of discernment given to me by You.”
