The Gospel

“Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, descended from David.  This is my gospel, for which I am suffering even to the point of being chained like a criminal.  But God’s word is not chained.”  2 Timothy 2:8-9.

Verse chosen from today’s Bible reading: Jonah 1-4, and 2 Timothy 2.

The Gospel is Good News.

Paul may be in chains but the Gospel he is preaching is unchained.

God promised David that a Messiah coming in his line would live forever.  He was talking about His Son Jesus.

God loves the world.  He promised a King who would remove the biggest obstacle the earth’s inhabitants faced: the power of sin.

When Jesus died He took the sins (past/present/future) of the world with Him.  The sins, and the power of sin, stayed dead while God brought Jesus back to life.

Jesus returned with a new life, a life free of decay.

Because Jesus took care of my sins I can live knowing that sin has no power over me.  I have new life.  A life unburdened by sins.  I must live accordingly.

When Jesus returns, as He has promised, I will get a decay-free body.

“Lord, thank You for Your Good News.  Fill me with You so that I can live now as You want me to live.  Fill me with Your Love to overflowing.  I love You, Father.”

What is the Gospel?  It is news, good news.
