The remedy for sins

“The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, ‘Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!’”  John 1:29.

Verse chosen from today’s Bible reading: Isaiah 60-62, and John 1.

What an exciting announcement by John the Baptist.

John knew that Jesus was The Messiah.  God had told him that.  Now John declares what Jesus is going to do.

The Old Testament points to the coming Messiah and what He will do.  John the Baptist here is confirming the OT Scriptures.

It is the Good News.  Jesus did come to earth to take away our sins.  The method of doing it would be His death.  Jesus would die in our place.  He would take our punishment.  Our sins would be gone and the power of sin also.

And that Good News has happened.  It’s done.  Sin has no power over anyone’s life today…………unless we allow it.

Some folks refuse to believe that this news has happened.  Like the Japanese soldiers in The Philippines, after World War 2 ended, they refuse to accept the news that the war is over.  They just keep on fighting as if the end hasn’t happened!  No one could persuade them otherwise.  We have similar folks these days.  They refuse to believe that their sins (past/present/future) have been taken care of.  They keep on living as if their sins aren’t taken care of.

With the burden of my sins gone, I have a new life.  I’m free of the control of sin and must live accordingly.

John the Baptist didn’t announce this but New Testament Scriptures do: The Messiah is coming back to earth.  I must be about doing my part to prepare the earth for His return.

“Lord, thank You for erasing my sin burden.  Thank You for the new life You have given me as a result.  I love You, Father.  Help me.  Guide me into Your ways.  You are my God.”

Come out of the “woods” and accept the reality of the Good News.  Stop pretending it didn’t happen.
