“So I will establish my covenant with you, and you will know that I am the Lord. Then, when I make atonement for you for all you have done, you will remember and be ashamed and never again open your mouth because of your humiliation, declares the Sovereign Lord.” Ezekiel 16:62-63.
Verses chosen from today’s Bible reading: Ezekiel 15-16, Psalm 70, and Revelation 6.
Ezekiel 16 is very tough reading until you get to the end. Before the ending there is an extensive description of the evils of Judah and Jerusalem.
The evidence is so overwhelming. God’s people have been evil. They sin in so many ways. They choose other gods. You expect to read that God will be wiping them off the surface of the earth! But that isn’t where it goes.
Instead, we get the final two verses and get a preview of a future event.
God will take care of all the sins of these people. What event? The death of Jesus on the cross.
Jews looked ahead to an event in which something spectacular would happen. Many thought that God would take military control of the known world and elevate the Jews to prominence.
But God’s way instead was to put an end to their sin problem. Sin would no longer be overpowering. Sin wasn’t in control in the lives of those who realized that Jesus had put their sins to death forever. Our sins were no longer a burden. Jesus had taken them away. In God’s sight we are in the clear and now we can live accordingly.
“O Lord, You are a great God. Thank You for lifting the burden of sin off of me. I never deserved Your love. Forgive me for still sinning. Wash me clean. I want to live aligned with You. Thank You, Father.”
Part of the Good News is that God has taken care of your sin problem.
