“Ezra opened the book. All the people could see him because he was standing above them; and as he opened it, the people all stood up. Ezra praised the Lord, the great God; and all the people lifted their hands and responded, ‘Amen! Amen!’ Then they bowed down and worshiped the Lord with their faces to the ground.” Nehemiah 8:5-6.
Verses chosen from today’s Bible reading: Nehemiah 7-8, and Acts 1.
Look at all the various methods of worshiping going on and then think of the forms of worship that go on in the church you attend.
Any similarities? Any differences?
I am not familiar with folks are worshiping face down on the floor but I don’t doubt that it happens.
We are probably too sensitive to what other people are doing to worship God spontaneously.
We go to a sporting event and hoot and howl with little restraint yet in church we tone it down considerably. Hypocrites??
God knows what’s going on in our hearts. We can raise and praise and be far from Him. We can also quietly worship Him.
The key is to catch what God has done or is doing and worship Him accordingly.
People were overwhelmed to hear God’s Word. They hooted and howled without restraint. They realized how awesome God was and went facedown.
A concern would be for worship that is always the same, whether it be demonstrative or sedated. Is it a “routine?” Do we know why we’re doing what we’re doing?
“Lord, You are a great God. Forgive me for worshiping You routinely. Enable me to be spontaneous as I realize who You are and what You have done. There is none like You. You are in my midst. Thank You, Father.”
Are you uncomfortable when people worship differently than you do?
