Why did Jesus Christ die?

“I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing.”  Galatians 2:21.

Verse chosen from today’s Bible reading: Job 28-29, and Galatians 1-2.

If we opt to “do good” our way to acceptability with God, then we have forgotten why Jesus died.

Jesus died for everyone’s sins.  Yours, mine, and people we don’t even know.

It is the Gospel, the Good News.  Someone (Jesus) took care of our sin problem.

It has happened, so there is no reason to try and deal with our sin problem any other way.

When God raised Jesus from the dead there was new life for us all.  That’s news.  It’s happened.  We must live accordingly.

Living accordingly requires that we don’t attempt to put together other ways to make ourselves look better before God.  I’ll go to church.  I’ll read my Bible.  I’ll stop drinking.  Those things are NOT going to change our status with God regarding sin.  Why?  When Jesus died, He took care of the need to do things to be right with God.

So many choose to live like the Japanese soldier who fought on in the Philippines for twenty-nine years after World War 2 ended.  He refused to believe that the war was over.  He chose to live according to his belief that it hadn’t.  Everyone else believed that the war had ended and acted according to that belief.

Our sin problem HAS been taken care of.  We have a life unburdened by sin.  We must live accordingly.

“Lord, thank You for loving me so much.  Thank You for lifting the burden of sin from my life and giving me a new life.  How simple it is.  Help me to live accordingly.”

God has taken care of our sin problem. We must live accordingly.
