Job gets it!

“The Lord said to Job: ‘Will the one who contends with the Almighty correct him?  Let him who accuses God answer him!’  Then Job answered the Lord; ‘I am unworthy – how can I reply to you?  I put my hand over my mouth.  I spoke once, but I have no answer – twice, but I will say no more.’” Job 40:1-5.

Verses chosen from today’s Bible reading: Job 39-40, and 1 Corinthians 13-14.

Sometimes figuring things out is a progression.  Certainly not the case with Job!

After God confronted Job with a series of universe-management questions, the status of Job in relation to God was figured out.  Job got it.

What was the evidence that Job understood?  He chooses to say no more about God’s “shortcomings.”

And we need to get there as well.  God knows what He’s doing.  We need to give Him our support.  Far beyond giving the President-elect our support should be our support for God Almighty.

We need to be defensive about God.  We need to be light in a world that often prefers to ignore God or blame Him for problems.

How often do we do “our” thing and later rant at God when it doesn’t work the way we want.  Or if it does work well, we start the pattern of independently making our choices.  We think that if things go well, God must be with us.  That’s paganism!

“Lord, You know what is best.  There is no one like You.  Forgive me for falling into Job’s folly of calling You out when things don’t follow my plans.  I must run my plans through You.  I must cling to You.  I must have Your directions on my life.  Guide me, I beg.  I trust You and Your ways.”

Do you think that you have the firepower to question God?  Job heard about that thinking loud and clear.
