“If the dead are not raised, ‘Let us eat and drink for tomorrow we die.’” 1 Corinthians 15:32.
Verse chosen from today’s Bible reading: Psalm 149, and 1 Corinthians 15-16.
How crucial the resurrection of Christ is!
If Christ is dead, then His promise of a new life is bogus. We are all still sinners whether dead or alive.
If this life is all that there is then we should do everything we can to make it as enjoyable for ourselves as possible. Without much thought, we can think of people who live that way. The after-death future does not interest or concern them.
BUT Jesus Christ was raised from the dead by God. There were witnesses.
From what I read of Scripture, Jesus had a different body. He ate but He also moved differently (through walls?) than before.
We have been promised new bodies when Jesus the Messiah returns. The dead, who accepted the Good News, will get their new bodies first and then those still alive on earth.
Believers do have a purpose on earth. We must be preparing the earth and ourselves for Jesus’s return. The messes within us and around us must be dealt with. We certainly can enjoy what we have but looking ahead should make us even more joyful.
“Lord, I thank You that You took care of my sin problem when You died. I thank You that You were brought back to life with new life and that we also have new life. The power and guilt of sin over us have been broken. I have new life! Hallelujah.”
He is risen!
