Do not underestimate the enemy

“If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down from here.  For it is written: ‘He will command his angels concerning you to guard you carefully; they will lift you up in their hands so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’  Jesus answered, ‘It is said: Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’” Luke 4:9-12.

Verses chosen from today’s Bible reading: Genesis 9-11, and Luke 4.

It is my belief that the Democrats lost the recent election because they underestimated the opposition.  They thought that they had everything going their way and coasted to the finish line…….where they were finished!

Jesus is being tempted by the devil.  You don’t like the devil’s chances at success because this is God.

But the devil persists being more than willing to argue his way to success.

But it doesn’t work.  Jesus has answers ready for every verbal assault.  Jesus holds His ground and gives back more than He gets.

The devil retreats BUT is that the end of it?  No chance: “he left him until an opportune time.”

The devil is not finished.  He will do everything he can to mess up the work of God.

We must be prepared.  We cannot underestimate him.  He knows our weaknesses.

We must be in a state of perpetual readiness in our representation of Him.  The enemy is real and clever.

We have a great advantage because we are God’s children but unprepared children will easily wander away from where they should be.  Our relationship to Him must be ongoing and ready for warfare of any, and all, kinds from the devil.  In Him, we will be able to hold our ground.

“Lord, You stood up against the devil.  You had Scripture to fight back with.  Thank You for giving me time to study Your Word.  Enable me to put Your Word into action this day.  I love You, Father.”

You will not be able to successfully defend yourself, on your own, against the devil.
