“Who among you fears the Lord and obeys the word of his servant? Let the one who walks in the dark, who has not light, trust in the name of the Lord and rely on their God. But now, all you who light fires and provide yourselves with flaming torches, go, walk in the light of your fires and of the torches you have set ablaze. This is what you shall receive from my hand: You will lie down in torment.” Isaiah 50:10-11.
Verses chosen from today’s Bible reading: Isaiah 50-52, Psalm 92, and 2 Peter 1.
The choices are quite clear; following God or going life on my own.
Going life alone does not end well unless I misunderstand, “lie down in torment.”
The choice is our own. If we are not sure about God, we may opt to do things our own way.
Many in the US share a false impression of God. They see Him as someone who will find them acceptable because of what they do. They analyze their lives and determine that there is more good there than bad. God will surely weigh things and deem them worthy of heaven.
Not according to today’s verses! You either follow Him or you don’t. What does “following Him” involve? You have to believe the Good News that God/Jesus took care of your sins. You have no part in taking care of them. Your righteous is not true righteousness. He took care of your sins once and forever. You are in the clear on Judgment Day. If you believe the Good News, then you realize that you have a new life freed from sins’ burden. They’ve been lifted by God. With the new life comes a new approach to life on earth. We want this place to be as Godly as possible so we work our best in that direction. Jesus has promised to return to earth and complete the work that we have done.
“Lord, to me following You is the only option. I ask for Your intercession into the lives of those who are currently following their own light. Help them to understand the folly of that choice. They need to believe the Gospel and live accordingly. Intervene I beg, Father. I love You, Lord.”
Following God is the best decision you will ever make.
