“This is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘Give careful thought to your ways.’” Haggai 1:5,7.
Verses chosen from today’s Bible reading: Haggai 1-2, Psalm 129, and Luke 10.
The same verse appears twice in Haggai in the first chapter AND the second chapter. Might be important!
God, through prophets, gave instructions to the returning exiles. The exiles faced some opposition and delayed doing what God wanted them to do. Sound familiar?
The verses are a wake-up call for all of us: We must be doing what God wants us to do? The exiles had excuses for their inactivity and those excuses were lame, just like ours’ are.
Why is God so patient with us? We so often go our own ways. We ignore His Will and replace it with our will. We, in effect, demote Him to a lesser god status.
Scripture strongly rejects such behavior. He is a jealous God.
It interests me that Haggai describes how the returning exiles have not prospered very much in the fifteen years they have been back. Why? God has watched them and seen their disregard for His wishes and held back prosperity.
I do not avow the “health and wealth” gospel. However, I do want God to see me as someone doing what He wants me doing. From that position, I can be comfortable with whatever comes my way knowing that He is blessing me.
“Lord, good Scripture to take note of today. I must be about Your business. What do You want me doing today? What do You want me to stop doing? My relationship with You must be close and ongoing. Forgive me for making it anything less. I need You every second. I love You, Father.”
I must be doing what God has planned for me………without exceptions!
