“The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat. So you must be careful to do every thing they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach.” Matthew 23:2-3.
Verses chosen from today’s Bible reading; Matthew 23-25.
Those indicted in these verses knew God’s Law and spoke God’s Law. The problem was that they misunderstood how to transfer their knowledge into Godly lifestyles.
Every day is another day I spend reading select passages of God’s Word and meditating on it. BUT do I turn that information into a Godly lifestyle?
I must approach God’s Word as if I can learn a life lesson from it. God is trying to instruct me. Am I open to listening? Am I open to revising preconceived notions?
The folks indicted were stuck on a way of doing things. Surely, they thought they were doing right. Surely they thought that they had insights into what God wanted from them. Sadly they were stuck in wrong!
I must be sure that I am open to instructions. I beg for new eyes/ears as I enter the pages of His Word.
I am trying to look at the Bible as a manual. I want to build myself into His man. The instructions for the building process are in the Bible. I must not read the Bible and just learn ABOUT the instructions. I must internalize the instructions and get after living as He wants me to live.
“Lord, I thank You for Your Instructions. Help me to turn my knowledge of Your Instructions into actions that glorify you. I am wasting my time otherwise. I love You, Father.”
The Bible is telling me how God wants me to live. Why don’t I read it that way?
