“But godliness with contentment is great gain.” 1 Timothy 6:6.
Verse chosen from today’s Bible reading; 2 Kings 11-12, 2 Chronicles 24, and 1 Timothy 6.
I am happy BUT….
We can’t seem to help ourselves. We constantly search for happiness away from God.
We deny we’re doing it but let’s look realistically at our lives. What gives us our top pleasure? That’s where our contentment is.
We go to church and sing praises to Him. “He is great.” “He is almighty.” But is He that in our lives?
We chase after what makes us happy. We put time and energy into those things. But when we “chase” we move away from what we already have: His Spirit within us.
My here-and-now is crucial. Wherever I am, He’s in me and with me. I can be content in that realization. I don’t have to go to church to find Him nor to a Bible study. He’s with me here in my office! And He will be with me in those other places as well. I can be content in that realization. But am I?
“Lord, I thank You for Your Word. I thank You for revealing to me truths to help me to live/act as You prefer. Forgive my discontents. Stop me from chasing other gods. That “chasing” reveals my looseness from Your Holy Spirit. Thank You for being in me and with me. I CAN be content in that realization. Thank You, Lord.”
Why do we chase God elsewhere? We have Him within us. We must start from there.
