“He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever; he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities.” Psalm 103:9-10.
I am on death row.
What keeps me from death is God’s mercy.
My first sin earned me death instantly, but God didn’t execute the sentence. At least not yet.
Most people do not die on a schedule. It just happens at a random time.
It is easy to think, “Why didn’t God let them live? They were good people.” But they weren’t. They were sinners on death row, awaiting death. We all are. God could rightly execute us at any time. The timing is in His Hands.
It is often said that we should thank God for all the good things He has done for us. Certainly, a good idea! But based on today’s verse, I can be thankful for the things God doesn’t do. I can be thankful that He hasn’t ended my life because I am indeed a sinner and deserve death.
God sent Jesus to take the punishment I deserve for my sins. I do not know when I will die, but I do know that when I stand before God on Judgment Day I will be deemed completely in the clear before Him. Hallelujah!
Conclusion: I am on death row. I must relish every “bonus” second He has given me and live to honor Him.
