Who’s your master?

“For people are slaves to whatever has mastered them.” 2 Peter 2:19.

Verse chosen from today’s Bible reading: Isaiah 53-56, and 2 Peter 2.

I am not an expert on Scripture.  No seminary training.  Just someone who reads the Bible daily and tries to apply a verse or verses to himself.

I have never doubted that people can/will come to different interpretations than I come up with.

I pray before I read and I pray before I write BUT understand that I am not an expert.

I chose to read daily because I needed the discipline.  I knew that reading the Bible was the right thing to do but my previous approach led to infrequent readings.  The Wayne Cordeiro reading list solves that problem.

The writing part helps tune me better to what I am reading.  As I’m reading I’m looking for verses that I can write about.  Verses that are meant for me, so to speak.  Usually there are several possibilities.  I believe in underlining verses of impact and so on the next trip through some verses are chosen verses again.

Today’s verse hits me directly: Who is my master?  A master is someone you obey.  Someone you are tightly tuned into.

Think of a master as your boss.  He tells you to do things.  If you do them then he continues to be your boss.  However, if you don’t do what he tells you to do you could well be looking for another boss!

God is my Master.  I accepted His Good News and am trying to live accordingly.  Part of “living accordingly” is learning what He wants from me and then carrying it out.  Reading His Word regularly is a way that I find out what He wants.

A worry in my life is the frequency in which I become enslaved to things other than Him.  Those are the counterfeit gods that must be put in their proper places below Him.

“Lord, You are my God.  Forgive me for violating Your instructions.  Fill me with You.  Take me over.  Prick my conscience when I mess up.  Bring me back to You.  I want to be with You full-time.  Help me, Lord, I pray.”

You’re following someone/something.  If you are living according to the Good News it will be God.  Ditch the counterfeit gods.
