Putting God to the test………..bad idea!

“And he (Moses) called the place Massah and Meribah because the Israelites quarreled and because they tested the Lord saying, ‘Is the Lord among us or not?’”  Exodus 17:7.

Verse chosen from today’s Bible reading:  Exodus 17-20, and Acts 3.

This is clear cut.  No wondering about what specifically not to do.

I love the Bible because it’s “busy” with characters of all sorts coming and going.  You don’t just have the best-of-the-best.   You also are introduced to the worst-of-the-worst!

We learn in today’s chosen verse what we shouldn’t do.

the brief history from the start of the plagues, God has been in the midst of the Israelites.  They had the Red Sea on one side of them and the Egyptian military on the other.  God was with them there.

As issues come up in their travels beyond the Red Sea, the insidious doubting of God surfaces again and again.  God is not pleased that it happens.

The evidence is clear in looking at past events that God is indeed with them.  Moses is getting his directives from God………yet each problem produces doubters with attitudes that irk God.

And we are the same way, aren’t we?  We have a history.  We know the things that have happened in our lives.  God is not missing.  We have His Holy Spirit within us.  Good times, bad times He’s ALWAYS in our midst.  And we best not suggest otherwise and test God, as the Israelites did in today’s verse.

“Lord, You are my omnipresent God.  You have promised not to forsake me and I’m taking that to the bank.  Forgive me for doubting You.  I love You, Father.”

Whining is testing God……..don’t go there.
