Crucified (Galatians 6:14)

(Verse chosen from today’s Bible reading -Deuteronomy 28-29 & Galatians 6)

“May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.”  Galatians 6:14

What lessons are there for me in this Scripture?

This world is not my home.  I’m just passing through.

My life died when I accepted Christ’s death as the solution to my sin problem.  Because Jesus lives, I live in Him.  I have His Holy Spirit within me.

I cannot show any loyalties to the gods of this world.  What is important to me must be to be doing what He wants.  I must seek His guidance in every move.  I can’t leave home without Him!

There is no future in the allures of this world.  Every good gift I have comes from Him.  I can take credit for none of it.  My dependence must be on Him.

If I am drawn to the acclaim of this world then I am being drawn away from God.  The reverse can also be true……and that must be the case for me.

Freedom (Galatians 5:1)

(Verse chosen from today’s Bible reading – Deuteronomy 25-27 & Galatians 5)

“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free.  Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.”  Galatians 5:1

What lessons are there for me from this Scripture?

I am no longer a slave to my circumstances.  I belong to Christ.  He is my life.

The circumstances of my life are in His hands.  I am not in control.  My goal is to be in His will.

For there I will find peace.  I will not have peace trying to get my own way.  My dependence must be on Him.  I must live step-by-step attached to Him.  Apart from Him I can do nothing of spiritual value.

To allow my circumstances to control me is to deny God that opportunity.  I must never let that happen.  I must react to closed doors and adversity with a thankful heart because I face either or both in His strength.

He knows what is best for me.  He loves me.  I desperately yearn for His guidance.  I must not be burdened by the circumstances of this world.

Joy? (Galatians 4:15)

(Verse chosen from today’s Bible reading – Deuteronomy 22-24 & Galatians 4)

“What has happened to all your joy?”  Galatians 4:15

What lessons are there for me in this Scripture?

I have God controlling my life.  I have the assurance of an eternity with Him that has already started.  I have every reason to be happy and to be seen as joyful because my joy is in Him.

Life may be unpleasant but that should not impact my joyous relationship with Him.  He is there for me.  He has my back.

I must be about His business.  I must be where He wants me to be.

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from Him.  And He has given me so much.  Imagine the good gifts that I am not even aware of.

That I have Him is a joyful thought.  I must do everything in my power to please Him.  I love Him.

“What do You want me to do, Father.  Show me, I beg.”

Christ in me (Galatians 2:20)

(Verse chosen from today’s Bible reading – Deuteronomy 16-18 & Psalm 38 & Galatians 2)

“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.  The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.”  Galatians 2:20

What lessons are there for me in this Scripture?

This verse is described as, “Paul’s testimony.”  It must be mine as well.

I was a sinner deserving eternal separation from God.  I am still a sinner but I accept the fact that Christ died for my sins and in doing that He removed the punishment (eternal separation from Him) that I deserved.

I have given Him my life.  I now live trusting Him.  I now live surrendered to Him.  I live as someone filled with His Holy Spirit.  I belong to Him.

The life I live is not my own.  Those in my midst must see this Godly intertwining that has happened.

I must closely monitor my life so that His Ways are my ways.  I must closely study/memorize His Words so as to gain His Wisdom.

I will fail functioning independently.

God be praised (Galatians 1:24)

(Verse chosen from today’s Bible reading – Deuteronomy 13-15 & Galatians 1)

“And they praised God because of me.”  Galatians 1:24

What lessons are there for me in this Scripture?

What a role model Paul is.  He has done something but God has received the praise.

I can do nothing of spiritual value on my own.  Every good gift and every perfect gift comes to me from Him.  I can take no credit.  Instead, I must redirect credit to Him.

I must assure folks that everything with me is God-willing.  To do otherwise is folly.

What strength I can have in Him!  I must know Him intensely so that His ways become my ways.

I must stand up for correction at every juncture.  I cannot depend on myself for anything.,  I must beg Him to remove the sludge from my life that slows me down in following Him.

James Herriot was born on March 10th.  God gave him the ability to write.

Do your part! (Galatians 6:4-5) – Billy Graham

Harrison Bay loon

(Verses chosen from today’s Bible reading – Job 31-32 & Galatians 5-6)

“Each one should test his own actions.  Then he can take pride in himself, without comparing himself to somebody else, for each on should carry his own load.”  Galatians 6:4-5

What lessons are there for me in this Scripture?
My relationship to God is personal.  There is no sort of collective arrangement.  I will stand before God as an individual on Judgment Day.  I must make certain that the things I do are right in God’s sight.  That could well be a full-time job!  If I am doing what pleases Him, what joy I will have wherever I am.  I will not need to compare myself to others or compare others to me.  There is no competition involved.  My satisfaction will not come from comparisons but from His approval.  There will always be folks at various ability levels.

Billy Graham was born on November 7th.  God gave him extraordinary spiritual gifts.

Why did Jesus die? (Galatians 2:21) – Roy Rogers

Long Lake from Hawk Mountain

(Verse chosen from today’s Bible reading – Job 28-29 & Galatians 1-2)

“If a living relationship with God could come by rule-keeping, then Christ died unnecessarily.”  Galatians 2:21

What lessons are there for me in this Scripture?
I have done nothing to deserve God’s favor.  I did not earn my salvation.  It came to me via an act of grace on God’s part.  Rule keeping has its place but that place is not as an avenue by which I can become good enough to satisfy God.  I am a sinner and will always be one.  Jesus gave Himself to be the sacrifice needed to eliminate the consequences of my sin.  The belief part is my believing that Jesus’ sacrifice did the job. I also invite Him to take over my life.  After eliminating the rightful consequences of my sin and giving my life to God, I then want to keep God’s laws because I love Him.  The laws are important for a non-believer because they quickly learn that they can’t keep the laws no matter what their intentions are.  They are  sinners needing another arrangement to right themselves with God.

Roy Rogers was born on November 5th.  God gave him the ability to entertain.

Boasting

red-breasted marganser

(Verse chosen from today’s Bible reading – Deuteronomy 28-29 & Galatians 6)

“For my part, I am going to boast about nothing but the Cross of our Master, Jesus Christ.  Because of that Cross, I have been crucified in relation to the world, set free from the stifling atmosphere of pleasing others and getting into the little patterns that they dictate.”  Galatians 6:14

My works are nothing compared to what God has done for me.  I must be less impressed with what I do and continually thank Him for all He’s done for me.  My sins are forgiven thanks to Him.

Life Style

oldsquaw

(Verse chosen from today’s Bible reading – Deuteronomy 25-27 & Galatians 5)

“Since this is the kind of life we have chosen, the life of the Spirit, let us make sure that we don’t just hold it as an idea in our heads or a sentiment in our hearts, but work out its implications in every detail of our lives.”  Galatians 5:25

My relationship to God must be complete.  I cannot just know what He wants but I also have to live it out.  Whatever You want me to do, I will do!

How Could You

old squaw

(Verse chosen from today’s Bible reading – Deuteronomy 22-24 & Galatians 4)

“But now that you know the real God – or rather since God knows you – how can you possibly subject yourselves to those paper tigers?”

My trust needs to be in God alone.  There is no one above Him.  He is a jealous God and won’t approve of my affections going to other things.  Why would I want any other?
