Know it all (Proverbs 3:7)

(Verse chosen from today’s Bible reading – Proverbs 1-3 & Romans 7)

“Do not be wise in your own eyes.”  Proverbs 3:7

What lessons are there for me in this Scripture?

How little I know!

When I am with folks who actually have some spiritual depth, I quickly see how little I have.

Pride in self leads me into making inaccurate judgments and assumptions.  It leads to thinking I have insights of some merit, when in truth my information is limited and my assumptions are based on limited content.

I must continue to seek God’s insight.  I can place little credence on something I come up with.

I am far too ready to draw and offer conclusions.  It is a dangerous habit certain to lead to difficulties.

I must elevate my craving to learn of Him.  I must de-elevate my willingness to offer personal insights that may only come from me.

God must be pleased with the overflow of my heart.  It must sound Godly or kept to myself.  His Words must be my words.

Al Jolson was born on May 26th.  God gave him the ability to write music.

Fear and Hope

bleeding hearts

(Verse chosen from today’s Bible reading – Proverbs 30-31 & Psalm 33 & Ephesians 1)

“But the eyes of the Lord are on those who fear Him, on those whose hope is in His unfailing love.”  Proverbs 33:8

I must never underestimate God.  I must not take Him lightly.  He is all-powerful.  Nothing good comes my way ultimately when I disobey Him.  I need to completely trust Him.  His love has never changed.  The Lord knows all that I am doing.  He is watching me.  I must live with these things in mind.

Useless Prayers

daisies

(Verse chosen from today’s Bible reading – Proverbs 28-29 & Psalm 60 & Romans 16)

“God has no use for the prayers of the people who won’t listen to him.”  Proverbs 28:9

I must do what God wants me to do.  Deliberate disobedience results in cutting off my connection to God.  I must clear away anything that interferes with my link to Him.  I need to be able to interact with God whether it be praise or petition.  I can’t jeopardize that connection by my disobedience.  I must be continuously evaluating my behavior lest is become an interference to my access to the God I love.

Testing Testing

flowers

(Verse chosen from today’s Bible reading – Proverbs 25-27 & Romans 15)

“The purity of silver and gold is tested by putting them in the fire; the purity of the human hearts is tested by giving them a little fame.”  Proverbs 27:21

When things go well, am I inclined to rejoice in what I’ve done rather than giving God the glory?  Every good and perfect gift cometh from above.  He deserves all glory and honor.  I must defer to Him in all occasions.  I can do nothing of any value on my own.  To God be the glory, great things He has done!

Expose Wickedness

flowers

(Verses chosen from today’s Bible reading – Proverbs 22-24 & Romans 14)

“It’s wrong, very wrong, to go along with injustice.  Whoever whitewashes the wicked gets a black mark in the history books, but whoever exposes the wicked will be thanked and rewarded.”  Proverbs 24:23-25

I have the ability/opportunity to speak/write.  I must use these abilities in a Godly fashion.  I must be alert to what is going on around me.  I must be accurately understanding what is going on around me.  I must make a well-thought out response to evil when the opportunity presents itself.  God must be in the mix in all of this.  I can do nothing without His guidance.

Advice and Instruction

flox

(Verse chosen from today’s Bible reading – Proverbs 19-21 & Romans 13)

“Listen to advice and accept instruction, and in the end you will be wise.”  Proverbs 19:20

The lost art (for me) of taking advice and instruction is the topic.  You can’t teach an old dog a new trick.  How sad!  I do not “know it all.”  I must have ears to hear as well as an open mind.  How can I learn anything otherwise?  My biggest problem here is receiving advice only from sources I trust and rejecting it from those I don’t.  I must be open, first to hear, and second, be willing to change based on the new instruction.  My ways are not always God’s Ways.  I must be willing and ready to correct an incorrect course.

Planning

(Verse chosen from today’s Bible reading – Proverbs 16-18 & Romans 12)

“In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps.”  Proverbs 16:9

Making plans without God is folly.  I can plan until the cows come home but it is God’s plan that actually happens.  I am not in control.  He is.  I must look for His Way.  I must tune in to what He wants done.  Even my best intentions may be godless aspirations.  I must seek His guidance.  He is the planning leader.  I am the follower.  Without Him, all my righteousness is filthy rags.  I must be led by Him.

Kind Words

pansies

(Verse chosen from today’s Bible reading – Proverbs 13-15 & Romans 11)

“Kind words heal and help; cutting words wound and maim.”  Proverbs 15:4

What I say is important.  I must have Godly timing with any words I use.  There is such a thing as the right words at the wrong time. How is the recipient going to be blessed by what I say?  Might be a good time to zip it if there is no obvious blessing resulting.  At least a pause to reconsider seems right.  My words reflect the state of my heart.  God is not fooled by my exteriors.

Real Life

wisteria - Cushing Museum

(Verse chosen from today’s Bible reading – Proverbs 7-9 & Romans 9)

“When you find me, you find life, real life, to say nothing of God’s good pleasure.”  Proverbs 8:35

What’s at the finish line is revealed here.   The point of surrendering to God and realizing what the reward is.  It’s life to its fullest.  Greater than anything imaginable.   Pleasing God has a great reward in the heart.  You know that God knows/loves You.  You can call on Him anytime.  Living water is the beverage served for His children.  Lasting peace is there for us troubled folks.

Fear God

wisteria

(Verse chosen from today’s Bible reading – Proverbs 1-3 & Romans 7)

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.”  Proverbs 1:7

I must realize Who God is.  When I accurately do that I can learn of/from Him and live a Godly life.  I must magnify my view of Him.  He is the Creator.  He didn’t create and disappear.  He’s in control.  My respect for Him must control my behavior.  It must control my mind.  I must trust Him with all my heart.
